Continuing a trend that has seen the Blades allow their opponents to hang around until the final 20 minutes, Oakville put away the Milton IceHawks Saturday with three third-period goals by captain Jeremy Welsh. "It's not a habit we'd like to get into," Welsh said after his team's 7-3 Ontario Junior Hockey League victory. "A good first (period) would be better than the third. It's something we'll have to Jeremy Welsh focus on, getting a good start in the game." If you forget about the previous weekend's 10-2 loss to the Georgetown Raiders -- something Welsh insists the Blades have already done -- Oakville has outscored its opponents 12-4 in the third periods of its last four games. In each of the previous three, the Blades clung to one-goal leads before breaking through. LIESA KORTMANN / OAKVILLE BEAVER WHATEVER IT TAKES: T.A. Blakelock Tigers player Emily Carter (in black) and Loyola Hawks goalie Jeanette Gamble both sprawl for the puck while three Loyola defenders look on. Gamble kept the puck out of the net on this play, but the Tigers prevailed 4-0 in Monday's high school girls' hockey clash at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. See page 34 for the story.
