www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday December 12, 2008 - 7 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR MPs should not be paid while Parliament is suspended While I support the proroguing of the Conservative-led Parliament, if anything just to see the end of the sorrowful spectacle caused by the coalition of the opposition, I would like to see changes to the law governing the functioning of Parliament so that all members of the legislature will not collect pay while their functions are suspended. It is incredible that the MPs will be having a paid extended vacation after not even two months of being elected and only days after returning to work. This kind of special treatment, compared to the one that the average worker gets, is in itself an incentive for parties to behave irresponsibly and play this type of games. I bet my last dollar that if they were to lose some pay, even if nominal, they all would be looking forward to working right now (or at least going to the pretences of doing so). Of course the only member who would carry such a move would be Prime Minister Stephen Harper or his like. If something good came out of this circus, that was the exposure of how selfish and greedy some of the parties are when their own interest are being threatened in the slightest. Let's not forget. BILL FLORES Thanks for the support Continued from page 6 ble without the generous donations made to Eric's Amazing Race and Jesse's Journey. Nov. 1 will mark the day that we took over the entire upstairs of the Waterdown Legion and filled it. The Burlington Teen Tour Band Drum line rocked the house with their `Drummin' For A Cure.' We had a record number of participants in the day and we thank everyone for their support. We're already thinking and planning for next year's event on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.
