You can join the Daffodil Days campaign by signing up to sell the cheerful blooms at one of the many locations in town. Daffodil Days run from Thursday, April 2 to Sunday, April 5. Bunches of daffodils will be available for $7 each or two for $12. Volunteers will be selling daffodils at grocery stores, LCBO stores and other retail stores in Oakville. Call the Oakville Unit at 905-8455231 for information. Also needed are volunteers for this spring's Residential Canvass. Throughout the entire month of April, hundreds of Canadian Cancer Society volunteers will be knocking on doors across town, acting as ambassadors and collecting money for the Society. The Oakville Unit is in urgent need of more volunteers to help with this campaign. Gather a group of friends and host a neighbourhood "blitz" night. Choose one night during the month of April and canvass a local neighbourhood in teams of two. Each route consists of 20-30 houses. Afterwards, host a hot chocolate party to celebrate how successful you were. It only takes a few hours, but it makes a huge difference. The Residential Canvass is also a great way to honour a loved one. Dedicate your canvass night to a friend or family member that is currently battling cancer or who has lost their life to the disease. "Both of our campaigns, Daffodil Days and the Residential Canvass, are such important fundraisers to our community," said Lisa Moffatt, fundraising co-ordinator of the Oakville Unit. "It takes hundreds of helping hands to make both of these campaigns a success," said Moffatt. Student volunteers are also encouraged to take part in the campaigns. "Our Daffodil Month activities are a great way for students to complete community service hours," said Moffatt. In addition to Daffodil Days and the Residential canvass, students also have the chance to participate in the Residential Information and Envelope Drop Campaigns. Information drops involve students distributing "request for canvasser" slips throughout the month of March, in areas where there are no active canvassers. Envelope drops involve students distributing donation envelopes during April to the mailboxes of homes in Oakville where there are no canvassers scheduled. Those interested can contact Moffatt at 905-845-5231 or lmoffatt@ontario.cancer.ca.
