There will be a 1k course at 8 a.m., the 10k run at 8:30 a.m. and a 10k power walk at 8:35 a.m. Registration for the 1k walk is free, but a donation to the United Way of Oakville is encouraged. "Our vision is to foster the opportunity to offer ownership of a unique, local road race for Oakville," said race director Mary Lynn Futers. Registration for the 10k run or 10k power walk is $45 or $50 on race day. Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Oakville. While Canadian 10k races average just 300 participants in their first year, the inaugural Mercedes-Benz 10k had confirmed participation of more than 100 in just the first 12 days of registration. At a recent media conference at Mercedes-Benz Oakville Autohaus on South Service Road West, general manager Mark LeRoeye launched the inaugural Mercedes-Benz High School Challenge. Mercedes-Benz Oakville Autohaus will boost the top fundraising school's tally by $1,000 and the top individual fundraiser in the region will receive an all access music pass from program partner, Sympatico/MSN. Challenges have been sent to Oakville public, Catholic and private high schools. Cyclepath is the cycle valet and Bark & Fitz is the sponsor of the 1k family and doggyfriendly walk at the event.
