OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 1, 2009 · 12 The Regional Literacy Council wants your used books www.halton.ca Spring cleaning this weekend? Here's a chance to clear some space on those bookshelves and donate some used books for a good cause. The Oakville Literacy Council is now accepting gently-used books for its annual used book sale at Hopedale Mall from May 21-23. "Volunteers are available to accept your book donations at Hopedale Mall at various times until May 15," said Linda North, co-chair of the Used Book Sale Committee. "People should check www.oakvilleliteracy.ca for the schedule of dropoff times and directions to our storage unit." North said most gently-used books are accepted, including fiction and non-fiction for both adults and children, but there are a few exceptions. "We're not able to take textbooks, magazines, or outdated reference or computer books," she said. "Just think about what you would like to buy at a used book sale, then judge what you've got." The Oakville Literacy Council is a non-profit, volunteer organization providing free, oneon-one tutoring to adults who want to improve their reading, writing, and math skills for further independence, or better opportunities in education and employment. Proceeds from the used book sale provide essential operating funds for the program.
