The decision to make this request, made during Tuesday's council meeting, comes with the onset of May and June, described by the Town as the peak periods of grass and dandelion growth. During this period, the Town alters its grass-cutting practices from once every 14 days to once every seven days. Halton Region does not and it shows, noted Ward 4 Councillor Allan Elgar. "It's getting really bad out there," he said. "The dandelions are almost a foot tall now." A construction start date for the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital is once again in sight following a recent decision by Infrastructure Ontario that could see shovels in the ground as early as spring of 2011. The project lost its original construction start date of 2010 last year when the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy cited a shortage of construction firms needed to build the hospital as the reason for the delay. Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn prompted a re-evaluation of this position. "This just wasn't acceptable," he said. "People get high quality health care when they go to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, but the facility is getting overcrowded so the first point that I made to the minister was that it wasn't just a nice thing to have, it was something that was absolutely essential that we have to have as soon as possible." Flynn went on to note that when the ministry's construction firm capacity study came back stating there were no qualified construction firms available to build the hospital during the original time frame, he suspected the ministry had given itself considerable latitude. At Flynn's insistence a second capacity study was done reevaluating the findings of the first study.
