"We actually call it sexy defence," added Perras, refer- n OT head coach ring to a term that former Dan Valley coach Drew McArthur was known for. "We try to make sure there's no gaps within the defence. That's what we kept saying -- make sure there's no way they get through." OT played with the lead throughout the game, getting on the board with an early try by Naomi DeMarchi. Perras added another try late in the first half on a heads-up play, quick-tapping the ball to herself after the Titans were whistled for a high tackle and were moving back their penalized distance. Annika Rinas kicked the convert following Perras' try, giving OT a 12-0 lead at half. Ilines cut into the Trinity deficit by powering through several OT tacklers and barely crossing the line. The Titans threatened again at the end of the game, with Olivia Wozniak bulling her way deep into Red Devils' territory, but the final whistle blew shortly after. "If we had another minute and a half, I'm sure we would have popped one in. One bounce our way and we're in overtime," Trinity coach Clark McDougall said. "OT's always traditionally strong -- they're a rugby factory -- and I have to give our girls credit. They came out and weren't intimidated by who (the Devils) were." The provincial AAA/AAAA girls' rugby championships will begin Monday in Brampton, concluding Wednesday. Valley was anticipating a fourth or fifth seed for his club. "I think four or five is pretty appropriate, given that we haven't won the big game yet," he said. "Anyone who was there last year knows that we belong there." Oakville snapped a three-game losing streak Friday with a 6-3 victory over the Hamilton Bengals, then downed the previously-undefeated Windsor AKO Fratmen 11-7 Saturday. The wins improved the Buzz to 6-4, good for fourth in the competitive South West Division. Oakville is two points behind St. Catharines for third, but has a game in hand on the Spartans. Mark White sparked the Buzz Friday with a hat trick. Spencer Gallant, Connor Gamble and Nick Soubry also tallied for the Buzz, which scored the first five goals of the game. Sunday, it was Jamie Elliott's turn to lead the Oakville offence. Elliott recorded a six-point evening, including five assists. White and Gallant each added a pair of markers, with Dylan Gilbert, Mike Dawson, Alex Kruse, Robert Bentivegna, Braden Gallant and Soubry contributing singles. Cam Watts earned the victory in goal in both games, stopping 25 shots Friday and turning aside 41 Sunday. Perhaps keying both victories was staying out of the penalty box, something the Buzz had struggled to do in previous losses. Oakville was shorthanded four times Friday and only once Sunday. The Buzz will look to keep its momentum when it plays three games in a four-day span, beginning tomorrow (Thursday) in Welland. Oakville will then return home Friday for an 8 p.m. game against Hamilton, and will also be home Sunday for a 7 p.m. contest with the division-leading Six Nations Rebels. After posting a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the St. Catharines Metros Thursday, the A's returned home Monday and dropped a 1-0 decision to the 2-4 Glanbrook Grizzlies at Oakville Park. Oakville's bats were held in check Monday by Glanbrook lefty Mike Czerwieniek, who carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowed only two hits over seven frames. The only run of the game came in the first inning as Glanbrook's Corrie Morrison hit a home run down the left field line. After scoring four runs in the first inning, the A's allowed St. Catharines (4-2) to score the next five runs and take a 5-4 lead into the sixth. Oakville tied the game on back-to-back doubles, then took the lead in the top of the ninth as Carter Buchanan's two-out single scored Gord Robertson. Marc Walton notched the victory, going the distance while allowing five runs on five hits. The A's visit Etobicoke Friday.
