OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 29, 2009 · 14 Ferrone tackling CEO's job at the YMCA All-time Argonaut, Oakville Hall of Fame member and businessman Dan Ferrone begins a new era for the YMCA of Oakville as he takes on the position of President and CEO, starting June 1. Ferrone, a life-long Oakville resident, grew up only two blocks from the YMCA of Oakville on Rebecca Street. "From an early age, the Y played a big part in my success at sports and in life, and ultimately helped me become a professional athlete," said Ferrone. "I am excited about joining this renowned, communityfocused charitable association." The YMCA of Oakville has delivered essential services of childcare, health, wellness and recreation to our community for 53 years. As a major charitable organization, the YMCA of Oakville has touched almost 50,000 people through its programs and services. In 2008, the Y provided fee assistance valued at $600,000 to more than 1,500 families and children in need. Over the years, Ferrone businesses and other enterprises, including those in the health and fitness field and in a government-regulated industry. He has also gained hands-on knowledge in managing diverse and multifaceted organizations at a national level, which will make him an exceptional individual to lead the Oakville YMCA into the future. The hiring of Dan Ferrone signals change, but Y leadership has ensured continuity too. Bruce Ireland, who has served the YMCA of Oakville as CEO for the past 23 years, will stay on board until December 31, 2009. "Bruce Ireland has created a legacy," said Ferrone. "I am fortunate to have him as a mentor. He has established a dedicated, experienced and successful staff and a tremendous group of volunteers. My goal is to grow Bruce's successes and expand the YMCA of Oakville to meet the needs of Oakville, especially through these difficult economic times," he added.
