Parents get reprieve 5 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 29, 2009 Continued from page 1 age of $50 a day for five hours of work. CUPE would like to see that number increase to $56.60. The latest offer from First Student Canada is approximately $52.80 per day. Wilker-Frey said the bargaining team is encouraging drivers to accept the offer. "The bargaining team is recommending the package, so we're preparing for a strike, but we're recommending the package to our members," she said. A spokesperson for First Student Canada said earlier this week he hopes the drivers will not go on strike. "I think the offer we extended last week that they are taking to the membership for a vote is fair under the circumstances," said Garry Gosling, First Student Canada general manager. "We're optimistic." All students taking First Student Canada school buses in Oakville and Burlington will be affected by a strike. Halton Student Transportation Services, which represents local school boards, is not responsible for getting students to school in the advent of a bus driver strike, as outlined in the Education Act. This means parents of approximately 4,000 students would have to make their own transportation arrangements. o t-of-T wn Ser vice & Ou rt rpo Ai BUY LOCALLY SERVICE LOCALLY SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY Phone: (905) 825-8088 www.volvoofoakville.com OAKVILLE'S #1 TAXI SERVICE EXPERIENCED DRIVERS YOU CAN DEPEND ON · · · · · · · · · · Airport Flat Rates Out-of-Town Service Regular In-Town Service 10% Discount On Parcel Service GPS Computerized Dispatch Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles Corporate Accounts Welcome Airport Customer Wake-Up Service 10% Senior Discount - In Town More Than 60 Taxis In Our Fleet OAKVILLE UNITED TAXI SERVICE DEPARTMENT OPEN SATURDAYS 24 HOUR 7 DAYS A WEEK PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS 905.338.0044 If you are interested in joining our team, please call 905-338-1762
