OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, June 5, 2009 · 8 Project DISH moves against criminal syndicate Twenty-two people are facing a flurry of robbery related charges after police moved against a criminal syndicate believed to be responsible for hundreds of robberies in the GTA, including 60 in Oakville and Milton. Dubbed Project Dish, the operation, which involved Halton, Toronto, Peel, York and Durham police services, saw police execute 24 search warrants across the GTA Wednesday. Police said the raids uncovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen property and resulted in countless charges. The four-month investigation into the group began in January 2009 when a series of successful robberies began hitting the GTA. "These were the ones that were very good at sitting on a street and watching someone exit the home before they robbed it," said Sgt. Brian Carr, Halton police public affairs officer. Police said, these break and enters in Oakville all occurred during the day with the suspects forcing open the front doors once they felt secure no one was home. Once inside the suspects would target jewelry, cash, electronics and passports, but were careful not to disturb anything else, with the result being that sometimes the victims did not realize they had been robbed until several days later. In some incidents, police said, the suspects would knock on the home's door and pose as "These were the ones that were very good at sitting on a street and watching someone exit the home before they robbed it."
