Resident rallies for raccoons By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Two orphaned baby raccoons are stuck between a rock and a hard place as a big-hearted Oakville resident struggles to find a proper home for them. For the past few days, Karen Milloy has been housing the raccoons in a catcarrying case in her garage. Twice a day she slips on a pair of old work gloves and places the babies in a laundry basket so she can feed them and clean their cage. The babies, who are each about the size of a grapefruit, make small warbling sounds as they explore the strange new world around them. Despite being wild animals, they seem to have no complaints about their current surroundings and make no efforts to escape from Milloy. "They trust me," she said. "I can pick them up and they know they're not going to get hurt. I wish I could keep them, but I understand they're not pets, they're not a domesticated animal." The story of how the raccoons came to be in Milloy's possession dates back to last Wednesday when Milloy pulled onto a street near her home and noticed a dead raccoon at the side of the road.
