5 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, June 17, 2009 Trustees vote on controversial school issue tonight Continued from page 1 potentially disruptive experience." Said resident Jennifer Hobbes, "Transition is stressful for students." Another resident, Mark Followes, reminded trustees that in February, all six options presented to the public included JK-8 schools. Resident Melanie Marshall referred to a 2007 study by the Canadian Journal of Education, which suggests there are no significant differences between transitional and non-transitional students. In her research, she also found no difference in the EQAO scores of transitional students. Trustees also heard an emotional plea by Michael Morden, the father of two boys at Chisholm. One of Morden's sons, Eric, has muscular dystrophy and the family moved into a bungalow in the winter of 2008 in order to live within walking distance of Chisholm. Being in close proximity to school is easier on Eric, whose condition will deteriorate in time and traveling will become more difficult. Chisholm has provided nurturing support to his son, he said, and parents at the school look out for him as if he is one of their own. "One size does not fit all," he said. "We already have great schools here despite their smaller size...(the current recommendation) will allow us to keep this." This was in contrast to the belief of other residents that Joudrie had breached his own guidelines: Joudrie had previously said that the recommendation had to feature JK-8 schools of 450 students or more. The proposed plan would see Chisholm and New Central with much fewer students than that approximately 338 and 300 respectively in September 2010 -- and offer JK-6 programming. "Why would we lose E.J. James in order to keep another smaller school open?" asked resident David Cuthbert. For the slight majority, the proposed plan offers the best alternative. Said Penny Headrick, a mother of three, "This solution gives every group something and it has widespread community support." 2009 Dodge Journey R/T 2009 Dodge Ram Crew 1500 Laramie 2009 Jeep Compass Limited 2009 Jeep Patriot Ltd. 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon JOIN US FOR A BBQ SATURDAY JUNE 20th CHRYSLER ON NOW! 2009 Chrysler Sebring Limited 2009 Dodge Avenger GUARANTEE* 2009 Dodge Charger PRICE GUARANTEE NO PAYMENTS FOR 90 DAYS 3 MONTH PAY BREAK FULLY-BACKED WARRANTY ROB 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT JAY Pino Ben Gerry Mio John Ric Malcolm Brad + UP TO $8,000 DELIVERY ALLOWANCE OR 0% FINANCING UP TO 60 MONTHS Offer Valid from June 15 - 22, 2009 GET $ LOYALTY BONUS CASH DORVAL DRIVE QEW WYECROFT RD.
