Kids can sign up on our website www.opl.on.ca at any point over the summer and begin their mission. Kids need to take a break, unwind and have a great vacation, but try to be mindful of the summer slide, the term coined by educators to describe the setback children experience from the end of the school year until they return in September. TD Summer Reading Club inspires and motivates kids to read and have lots of fun along the way. As children make their way through their own tailored reading list, they will record the books that they read. New this year, all kids can sign up online through our website www.opl.on.ca and also track their progress online. To do this they will need access and permission to use an Oakville Public Library card that has been registered with the OPL website. Tracking books and signing up online is ideal for busy families so kids can access their account anywhere anytime. TD Summer Reading Club is a great way to ensure your kids stay engaged with literacy and don't let their skills slip during the months when they are not in school. The cool incentive prizes for all our summer readers create excitement and goals to work towards. Once signed up online, kids are assigned a secret agent number and must bring this to their local branch to pick up their free TD Summer Reading poster, activity book and stickers. When they have read a minimum of three books, they are encouraged to visit their local branch and claim their first reporting prizes of one coupon for McDonald's apple pie or ice cream, one YMCA of Oakville Family Swim pass and a cool detective notebook. On reading and reporting another three books, participants will receive a Conservation Halton Family Pass valued at $25, a coupon for a Big Mac or McChicken and a secret agent pin, an African Lion Safari Student Pass and a ticket to the end of summer party. The TD Summer Reading Magic and Dance party in August will feature Presswood Entertainment and is sure to be a great celebration of all the summer reading achievements. Oakville Public Library is grateful for the support and sponsorship this year for the TD Summer Reading incentive prizes by The Friends of the Oakville Public Library, TD Canada Trust, YMCA of Oakville, Conservation Halton, African Lion Safari and McDonalds restaurants in Oakville. -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library
