Halton MP and Minister of Natural Resources Lisa Raitt made this point clear during a speech at an Oakville Chamber of Commerce luncheon held at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre on Thursday. Before an audience of several hundred, Raitt stated that carbon fuels continue to be important to the country's economy as Canada continues to not only use carbon fuels, but export them as well. "We are second in the world only to Saudi Arabia in proven oil resources, we're the third largest producer and the second largest exporter of natural gas in the world and that is even before we start talking about what is in the north and my department has great involvement in terms of analyzing how much more may be available in the Arctic," said Raitt. The Oakville YMCA's board of directors has called a confidential meeting with staff in midSeptember to discuss the sudden and surprising dismissal of its newlyappointed CEO, Dan Dan Ferrone Ferrone, on July 31. On Aug. 10, former Y CEO Bruce Ireland, who has returned as CEO for the interim, sent an e-mail to Y staff that was an invitation to attend the meeting from Y board chair Kristian Knibutat, who called the meeting. "The board of directors is aware that there have been some questions and concerns raised by some staff with respect to the recent termination of Dan Ferrone. As a result, we would like to invite you to a confidential staff meeting. The board will discuss certain aspects associated with its decision and how we are moving forward," stated the e-mail invitation obtained by The Beaver. Knibutat's invitation further states that in order to allow all staff the opportunity to attend, the date proposed takes into consideration vacation and work schedules. Neither Knibutat nor Ireland were available to comment on the e-mail invitation this week as both are currently on vacation.
