Next year, to accommodate attendance, the event will be at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. If you want to talk about great books with other book lovers, then join one of our adult book clubs. Diverse opinions are encouraged -- it's always fascinating to see who loved and who hated the book and why. This year, in response to growing demand, there will be three adult book clubs available: Central Branch on Monday evenings, Glen Abbey Branch on Thursday evenings and Woodside Branch on Tuesday afternoons. Space is limited and only a few spots remain, so register now by using IRIS on the Town of Oakville website (www.oakville.ca). Sessions are run monthly and are facilitated by library staff. Cost is $35. Those who register will receive a ticket to attend An Evening for Book Lovers to vote on the titles to be read this year. Teens run their own book club at the Oakville Public Library. `Not your mother's book club', this club is run for teens, by teens. Fantasy is the theme for this year. An information session for teens wanting to join will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Central Branch Auditorium. The club is free, but limited to teens 14-18 years of age. Finally, Tim Cook, this year's winner of the prestigious Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction, will speak at the Central Branch on Thursday, Oct. 1. The criticallyacclaimed author of At The Sharp End: Canadians Fighting the Great War 1914-1916, and Shock Troops: Canadians Fighting the Great War 1917-1918, Cook deftly tells the personal stories behind epic historical events. Frequently on radio and television as an expert, Cook is also the Great War Historian at the Canadian War Museum. Tickets cost $5 and are available at all library branches. This event complements the Oakville Galleries exhibition, Vimy Ridge, by Peter MacCallum, and is part of the Hometown Stories: Oakville Memories of War project.
