Finance rates starting from 0.9 TM %* Mayor calls power plant meeting Mayor Rob Burton is determined that if a 900-megawatt gas-fired power plant comes to town, it will be as clean as possible. The mayor has scheduled a special council meeting Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. to update council and the public on the provincial and municipal approval process for power plants as the town continues its fight for cleaner air in the Oakville-Clarkson airshed. "This council wants to ensure every precaution possible is taken to ensure that TransCanada's plan to build a power plant on Ford-owned lands at 1500 Royal Windsor Dr., does not cause harm to the community," said Burton. "There are many approvals that TransCanada will need to build this plant and the town will be demanding guarantees every step of the way that the power plant will do no harm." Town staff will be presenting council with a detailed overview of the Ontario government's approval process for power plants and when and where there will be opportunities for the town and its residents to express their concerns about the impacts of the power plant on the community. 300 South Service Road West, Oakville · 905-845-6623 For a complete listing of our Mercedes-Benz Certified vehicles visit www.mboakville.ca ©2008 Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. *0.9% financing only available through Mercedes-Benz Financial on approved credit for a limited time on Star Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles. The event will benefit homeless, abused and neglected animals of the community. The goal for this year's event is $60,000 to investigate cruelty, neglect and abuse and provide veterinary care for the most vulnerable animals in Oakville and Milton. Funds raised will also be used to care for orphaned animals waiting to be adopted into their `forever; home and to provide humane education and community outreach. People may raise pledges and then come out to walk for the animals. There are two walk routes -- the 5km `Homeward Bound' route winds through beautiful olde Oakville. The .5km `Happy Cat and Spot's Stroll' is perfect for children and older dogs and takes place at the Cornwall Road Park adjacent to the shelter. Registration for the walk takes place at the Cornwall Road Park. Leading off the walk will be Bryan Baeumler of Disaster DIY, the Oakville & District Humane Society's C.anine E.xecutive O.fficer `Darcy' and `Daisy' the poodle, the shelter's most recent good news story. Daisy was brought into the shelter with her fur so overgrown that she could barely walk, see or hear and had rampant infections because of an absence of grooming. The walk will be followed by one of Oakville's favourite Fall Fairs, the Critters Gone Country Fair. Held at the shelter, the fair will feature entertainment, food, a kids' centre with games and inflatables, pet products and craft marketplace and more. Walk registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the walk at 9:15 a.m. The fair will run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. It all takes place at the Cornwall Road Park and Oakville & District Humane Society at 445 Cornwall Rd. Pledge forms for the walk are available at the shelter, at S.P.O.T. licencing sites throughout the community and online at www.oakvillehumane.ca OR REPLACE YOUR OLD FURNACE AND AIR CONDITIONER FOR AS LOW AS 1,243 (AFTER REBATES) GST INCLUDED.* $ · DON'T PAY TILL 2010 ** * · 10 YEAR PARTS WARRANTY · LIFETIME HEAT EXCHANGER WARRANTY 3,418 (AFTER REBATES) GST INCLUDED.* 42 years 2009 ·24 HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICE ·QUALIFIED MECHANICS ·QUALITY WORKMANSHIP Bronte Rd FIREPLACE, HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING CONTRACTORS *Limited Time Offer, OAC *Limited Time Offer **O.A.C.
