Liberal candidate offers nothing new to discussion Continued from page 6 emitters have to be on board or we are wasting our time. This is why Kyoto failed. It appears that China, the U.S. and India may now be coming to this position, which is real progress. This is current U.S. (Obama) and Canadian (Harper) policy. While some would love any deal with media credit and photo ops to follow, what the world needs is something that will work. This requires real leadership in new directions not "follow the crowd" politics carried over from the past. · Science -- It has become increasing clear that the scientific process is highly politicized. Conversely, global temperature trends are becoming less clear. Important factors are being ignored. Dissenting voices are being marginalized. Scientists are colluding and thereby undermining the value of peer review. Data is not being made available for independent analysis and is being massaged to yield the "right" results. The vital proof of a link between man-made CO2 and warming still eludes scientists. Finally, on the subject of Al Gore, his continuing embarrassing errors and oversimplifications clearly disqualify him from speaking authoritatively. He is an entertainer. Despite his failings, he continues to find a forum among some including, clearly, Mr. Khan. We certainly are at a crossroads. From the new Liberal candidate I was expecting new and fresh ideas based on up-to-date knowledge of the the evolving situation. What I read was regurgitated outdated approaches from years ago. Khan criticizes Harper, but adds nothing to the discussion. Burden on taxpayers 7 · Friday, December 4, 2009 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Continued from page 6 For just this one school, our community will need to finance these capital costs, additional ongoing expenditures and 16.5 new public employees. Once these 14 ECE's are unionized by CUPE they will be expensive employees (salaries, pensions and other benefits). There will need to be increased property taxes or other tax increases as there is only so much money that Ontario can borrow for these tots to pay back later. Do we want another year of school? Do we want government daycare? Is it the best use of education tax dollars? Can we afford it? How is it going to be paid for? Ontario already has a spending problem. Borrowing more money to add expensive new entitlement programs in the middle of a recession is bad governance. MICHAEL HAWKINS KENNEDY FORD WE'RE GIVING AWAY...
