The Hawks gained a measure of revenge last week in the final of the Fred Scione Memorial Catholic Cup, outscoring Trinity 20-7 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 52-47 win over the Titans at Loyola. Thursday's Scione final didn't determine who would represent the region at next month's provincial all-Catholic championships in St. Catharines. Since Halton has two berths at provincials, both Loyola and Trinity qualified by simply reaching the final of the eight-team Scione competition. But that didn't diminish the significance of the game to the Hawks, who were intent on settling the score for a 56-52 loss to the Titans in December. "We've won bigger tournaments... but this is revenge for us," said Hawks guard Mike L'Africain. "They made us miserable for weeks. We'd won three tournaments in a row, were on a 16-game win streak... and they beat us in our home gym in a season game." Loyola now holds a 2-1 lead in the season series with Trinity. The Hawks' other win over the Titans came in the semifinal of the Pinky Lewis tournament. Loyola, ranked second in the GTA by last week's Toronto Star coaches' poll, won the Scione tournament the hard way. The Hawks were forced to play the final without forward Adam Presutti, who was forced to sit out the game with a back injury. Presutti led Loyola in scoring in its previous game against the Titans. Loyola's supporting cast picked up the slack, particularly centre Mike Andrews and guard Zac Collangelo. Both hit several key shots in the game, including a three-pointer by Collangelo that gave the Hawks a 46-45 lead with 2:10 left in regulation -- their first lead of the second half. "People off the bench stepped up, like Zac and Mike Andrews," said the Hawks' Rohan Boney, who was named tournament MVP. Canada Snowboard will announce the remainder of the team Monday in Quebec City, filling out the team with those who have not met the automatic qualification criteria. Batchelor's international results, including a silver medal at last year's world championships, should make him a strong candidate should he not qualify this weekend.
