www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, January 22, 2010 · 2 Invest in Oakville's Future Healthcare The Ontario government has approved the construction of a new hospital for Oakville, as the current Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital can no longer accommodate the healthcare needs of our growing and aging community. Over the next several weeks, the Town of Oakville will be consulting with residents regarding Halton Healthcare Services' (HHS) request to contribute $200 million to the local share requirement for the New Oakville Hospital project. The total local share amount, which is the project costs not covered by the provincial government, is estimated to be $530 million. The remaining local share amount will be raised through hospital revenues and the Oakville Hospital Foundation's $60-million capital campaign. A local share is required for all large-scale hospital construction projects in Ontario. Other hospitals, such as Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and the Niagara Health System, have also requested support from their local community through the municipal government for their local share. A complete local share plan, which includes the Town's contribution, is required before the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care provides HHS with approval to move forward with the New Oakville Hospital. The proposed $200 million contribution from the Town of Oakville will ensure that construction of the New Oakville Hospital will proceed as planned with the space, equipment and new services the residents of Oakville need and deserve. We need your support now. The benefits to our community are extensive and far reaching. The New Oakville Hospital will: · contain a much higher percentage of single patient rooms, which will reduce the risk of infection and increase patient privacy and comfort · offer new services such as a cancer clinic Caring Today, Growing For Tomorrow · provide additional diagnostic services including more MRIs and CT Scanners For additional information on the New Oakville Hospital, please visit www.newoakvillehospital.com
