Parfaits, Egg McMuffins popular among Olympic athletes n 19 · Friday, February 12, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Continued from page 18 What do the world's greatest athletes eat when they visit McDonald's? As Quigley has only worked the breakfast shift thus far, she said the main meal of choice for the athletes she served was the parfait, followed closely by the Egg McMuffin. While the situation did not permit extended conversations with Canada's athletes, Quigley said the athletes she has talked with have been very nice and she has had the opportunity to wish a number of them good luck in their events. Quigley also got a number of these athletes to sign a statue of Ronald McDonald, which she brought from a McDonald's in Oakville. "He's pretty covered in graffiti right now," she said. While technically there to work, Quigley and Desjardins have been able to do considerable sightseeing in the short time they've been in Vancouver and point out that the best is yet to come. "We've each got individual dates where we get to go on a plane ride," said Desjardins. "You go around the water and they just show you Vancouver from up there." As if this were not enough, the trip's perks also include tickets to select Olympic events with Quigley getting to see the Figure Skating Gala Exhibition while Desjardins will be treated to two speed-skating events including the men's final. Quigley said she has also just learned of an unexpected bonus the pair will get to experience while in Vancouver. "Every day there will a nighttime ceremony for the athletes who have won medals and we are actually getting tickets to go to one of those ceremonies," said Quigley. "Apparently, they will be having bands from all over Canada coming in and playing, so it is going to be like a gala and we weren't aware of this at all, they just told us at orientation." To select members for the Olympic crew, McDonald's stores across Canada were painstakingly tested over a five-month period to see which stores practiced the greatest teamwork and offered the best customer service. In the end, the 227 Cross Ave. store Desjardins works at was judged to be one of these exceptional stores, along with Quigley's Wal-Mart McDonald's.
