The Forbidden Phoenix Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People Imbue Family Day with a bit of culture by taking in a performance at the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. The plot follows family members who become separated and are later reunited, calling to mind the plight of Chinese workers brought to Canada to work on the railroad. Family Day Festival at the Beaches Just because you can't go swimming doesn't mean you can't have fun at the Beaches. The festival includes a petting zoo, reptile shows, magic shows, storytelling, a scavenger hunt, a silent auction, crafts and skating. Warm up after with hot chocolate and browse some of Queen East's great little shops and restaurants. You Dance Walter Carsen Centre Curtsy and plié your way to the Walter Carsen Centre this Family Day. A collaborative effort between the National Ballet of Canada and Canada's National Ballet School, You Dance will have classes, performances and workshops all day, introducing youth to classical ballet. A Day for the Birds Riverwood Conservancy Spend the morning with Mother Nature and her colourful brood. Learn about different species of birds and hand-feed them on a walk and talk on the Scotts Canada Bird Trek -- you might even see foxes, deer, hawks and owls. Kids also get a chance to create crafts for the birds. Cinderella Days Bata Shoe Museum Everyone knows the story of Cinderella, but do you know the Persian version? How about the French? Children can learn about cultural differences through storyteller Catherine Kentridge's Cinderella sessions. With the fairy tale as inspiration, kids can make Cinderella arts and crafts and look at costumes and shoes. K'NEX Build-Zone Ontario Science Centre Have a kid who loves to put things togeth Monday is Hockey Day in Oakville A couple weeks after CBC's Hockey Day In Canada, Oakville will hold its own one-day celebration of the sport. The second edition of Hockey Day in Oakville will take place Family Day (Monday, Feb. 15). The activities will take place at Canlan Ice Sports, located at 2300 Cornwall Rd. The games begin at 8 a.m. All Minor Oaks Hockey Association house league novice teams are welcome to join in on the action and there will be trophies given to every player registered, as well as one championship trophy for the winning team in each division. Everyone in the family is encouraged to also bring their skates to the tournament. At 12:30 p.m., anyone can get on the ice for the Family Day fun skate. Parents are also encouraged to bring non-perishable canned food items to contribute to the food drive. All of the money collected from the food drive and raffle tickets will be donated to Oakville's Fareshare Food Bank.
