Blades taming Tigers in first-round series The Oakville Blades had a chance to advance to the second round of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League playoffs when they hosted the Aurora Tigers last night (Tuesday) at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Oakville carried a 3-1 series lead into the fifth game of the teams' best-of-seven quarterfinal series. If the Blades did not finish off the Tigers last night, the series would shift back to Aurora tonight (Wednesday) for Game 6. Oakville had an opportunity to eliminate the Tigers Sunday in Aurora, but the Tigers' Lucas VanNatter scored 18 minutes into overtime to give Aurora a 5-4 victory and extend the series. Dustin Alcock scored twice in the loss for the Blades, his second goal coming with 37 seconds left in regulation time to force the extra session. Mark Bennett and Kyle Badham also tallied for Oakville Sunday, while Ryan Murphy and Mike Ingoldsby each contributed two MICHAEL IVANIN / OAKVILLE BEAVER assists. Steven Guzzo (two), Mark McGowan, Tyler Karius, Kyle Lysaght, Badham, Murphy and Alcock scored for the Blades in the rout, and Daniel Savelli made 27 saves for the shutout. Oakville, the second seed in the OJAHL playoffs, would likely face the Georgetown Raiders or Trenton Titans in the second round. Third-seed Georgetown holds a 3-2 series lead on the Villanova Knights, while fourth-ranked Trenton swept the Couchiching Terriers in four straight games. The regular-season champion Kingston Voyageurs carried a 3-1 series lead into their home game last night against the Vaughan Vipers. 19 · Wednesday, March 3, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com www. com Depend on the largest High Efficiency NO INTEREST NO PAYMENT FOR 6 MONTHS OAC AIRE ONE MADNESS SALE Gas Furnace Dealer in the Golden Triangle. The Cavaliers had beaten Brampton Christian by 30 points at a tournament earlier this season. "It was not a pretty game," said KCC head coach Eric Bulthuis. "I just think our team is able to, when we have to, do what's necessary to win games. We did it against Milton (in the Halton semifinals) and Corpus Christi (in the Halton finals). When we're put in a tough situation, our team just finds a way to win." Drew Hebb led the Cavaliers with 20 points while Ray Kim added 19. Bulthuis credited Hebb, the KCC cap- tain, as a big reason the Cavaliers will make their first-ever appearance at an OFSAA boys' basketball tournament. "His leadership has really rubbed off on the guys," Bulthuis said. "He sets a good example." -- Jon Kuiperij and Herb Garbutt, Oakville Beaver staff LIMITED TIME OFFER OVER 60,000 SATISFIED CUSTOMERS BUY NOW AND SAVE THE HST! al A/C Centr R 5 SEE 15.7 905-849-4998 www.aireone.com 1-888-827-2665 A+ Rating 9 LOCATIONS TO SERVE YOU BETTER *See dealer for details Oakville Minor Baseball Association Quality Baseball in Our Community since 1963 Providing Recreational House League, Competitive Select and Rep Programs 2010 Player Registration At Our Clubhouse 1236 Speers Road, Unit #4 Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM Or Visit our website at www.baseballoakville.com to register online or download our registration form and mail with payment to 1236 Speers Road, Unit #4, Oakville, Ontario L6L 2X4 Division T-Ball Coach Pitch Rookie Ball Mosquito Birth Year 2004-2005 2003 2001-2002 1999-2000 Division Peewee Bantam Midget Junior Birth Year 1997-1998 1995-1996 1992-1994 1986-1991 Divisions are filling up.
