United by a tragic past they have been coming together for decades to remember and to heal. On April 10, members of the August 15, 1945 Foundation (Southern Ontario Branch) will meet at Brampton's Holland Christian Homes, located at 7900 MacLaughlin Rd., South, for what some feel will be the group's final gathering. The August 15, 1945 Foundation is made up of DutchCanadians who survived three brutal years in internment camps, which they were placed in when the Japanese invaded the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) during the Second World War. The internments shattered families, killed thousands and brought thousands more to the very brink of starvation and death. Oakville resident Johanna Marsman, 80, is one of these survivors.
