Louie Sanchez, chief instructor of Horizon Taekwondo, has announced that on Saturday, April 24, students from his school and taekwondo schools from all across Ontario will meet at Iroquois Ridge High School to compete in the Jesse Comeau Memorial Tournament. Comeau, an instructor at Horizon Taekwondo, was killed on July 11, when an altercation broke out between two groups of youths at a Burlington house party. He was stabbed repeatedly during the incident along with two other youths who have since recovered. Comeau was only 16. Bradley Todorovich, 18, of Hamilton is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with Comeau's death. Sanchez said that while the taek- wondo tournament is held every year, this year it was important for the event to carry Comeau's name. "I've known Jesse since he was five years old and what happened to him...my God...it was very upsetting and so sad for that to happen to a 16 year old," he said. "I don't want his name forgotten. So I decided to make sure people remember we're going to name the tournament after Jesse Comeau." Sanchez said the tournament, which is expected to attract around inspire 200 competitors, will begin at 10 a.m. with a ceremony and slideshow about Comeau's life. Photos of Comeau will also be on display during the tournament along with a mural to commemorate him, which was painted by a Horizon Taekwondo student. Horizon Taekwondo members will also be wearing lime green tshirts with Comeau's picture on them -- Comeau's favourite colour. The public is invited to attend the tournament. Admission costs $5.
