www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 14, 2010 · 26 Battle is a win for all E ach spring, the Oakville Public Library and other local libraries welcome school teams to take part in a literary battle. They answer lots of questions about certain books, which have been selected and set by professional library staff. Battle of the Books promotes an enthusiasm for reading, team spirit and good sportsmanship. This exciting literary competition provides an excellent opportunity for Oakville Public Library to work with our community schools to celebrate books and reading. We thank the Friends of the Oakville Public Library for supporting this fantastic competition annually. Junior and senior Battle of the Books teams from Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton and Burlington came together for the Regional Battle championship held, this year, at the Burlington Central Library. Winners who took home the junior trophy were the Battle team from E. W. Foster School, Milton. Congratulations go to W. H. Morden School and the students from Oakville who made it to the final game and did a great job. As well as winning the Oakville Public Library Grand Battle, St. Matthew's School went on to win the senior trophy at the regional battle. Our very own St. Matthew School Oakville team competed against Charles R. Beaudoin School, in Burlington, in the final battle and both teams should be very proud. At the Regional Battle, well-known Canadian children's author Linda Bailey, showed slides from her many books and spoke to the participants. Bailey is best known for her children's books including the Stevie Diamond mystery series and the Good Times Travel Agency Adventures. Well done to all the participants -- keep reading.
