Former Oakville mayor Ann Mulvale announced Tuesday that she will be competing against Rob Burton for mayor for the third time -- this time as a challenger -- in October's municipal election. Mulvale, a resident of Oakville for 38 years, beat Burton by 28 votes in the 2003 Oakville election, but lost to him by 2,000 votes in the 2006 Oakville election. On Tuesday, Mulvale mounted the steps of Town Hall to file her candidacy papers as around 50 supporters cheered and waved Canadian flags. After emerging from the building, she talked about her reasons for returning to the political arena. "What I'm hearing is residents have noticed change. They are concerned about our increasing debt load, they are concerned about a lack of respect for their democratic choice in terms of who they've elected," said Mulvale.
