In the case of the late Robert John Mander, he spent it buying expensive collectibles, including three Faberge eggs worth an estimated $15,000-$18,000 each, 12 expensive watches, and a $135,000 2010 Jaguar. Mander, a financial adviser who died at his Flamborough home on March 17, was accused of bilking his clients of $40 million. Mander, a former Oakville resident, who owned the Dunn Street Gallery, was at the centre of a lawsuit filed on behalf of a Mississauga dentist who alleged Mander swindled him and a group of investors out of millions in what is described as a potential Ponzi scheme. The sale of his assets, including various cameras and guitars, is unlikely to provide scorched investors with much comfort. The items are expected to raise several hundred thousand dollars, but most could end up going to cover the receiver's expenses. Even a former home on Lawrence Crescent in Oakville, which sold for $2.755 million, yielded just $639,000 once the mortgage, commissions and other expenses were paid, according to documents filed in court by the receiver, RSM Richter Inc. The auction will be held via PowerPoint presentation on Wednesday, July 7.
