TransCanada among 47 Official Plan appellants Continued from page 4 5 · Wednesday, July 7, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Lightbourn School and Glenburnie School, all of which are appealing the Official Plan's private school policies. The Oakville Club and Edgemere Estate Limited have launched an appeal because of the plan's waterfront policies while Swiss Chalet has appealed because of the plan's midtown growth area policies. TransCanada Energy has also appealed the plan because of its energy generation policies, which prevent the construction of the 900-megawatt gas-fired power plant the company wants to build on the Ford-owned lands at 1500 Royal Windsor Dr. "The new Official Plan attempts to prohibit clean, safe and reliable power plants, like ours, in Oakville -- one of the fastest growing and heaviest power consuming cities in Ontario." Chris Breen, Trans Canada spokesperson "The new Official Plan attempts to prohibit clean, safe and reliable power plants like ours in Oakville -- one of the fastest growing and heaviest power consuming cities in Ontario," said Chris Breen, TransCanada spokesperson. "Last December, the Ontario Municipal Board struck down Oakville's Official Plan amendment #296, which also attempted to prohibit such power plants in Oakville. Unfortunately, the Town has not changed the Official Plan to reflect the Board's ruling and Oakville's power needs. We look forward to the Town respecting the ruling of the Board and amending the plan." Town staff has said that they are working with a number of appellants to see if the issues, which they have raised to date, can be addressed through modifications to the plan. At a future date, legal staff will bring forward a confidential report dealing with some proposed modifications where legal staff will be seeking instructions from council. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton said much still needs to happen before the Town decides how to deal with many of the appeals. "Council's unanimously adopted new Official Plan with its careful policies to govern future growth is being challenged by various interests. In May, the OMB gave them until Aug. 16, to detail their issues. When we know what they really want, we will be able to see how to respond," he said. 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt LS 4 cylinder, 155 horsepower, air, power steering, power brakes, front and side air bags, adjustable steering column, Cash Sale Price Now Only $ Just add taxes and licence VEHICLE PRICING IS NOW EASIER TO UNDERSTAND BECAUSE ALL OUR PRICES INCLUDE FREIGHT, PDI, ADMIN FEES AND MANDATORY GOVERNMENT LEVIES.
