Town of Oakville staff decided to move the equipment taken from West Oak Trails Park to the community centre after Town council directed them to postpone the skatepark's planned move to Chris Mark Palermo Park. During a July meeting, council agreed safety concerns and a lack of adequate pedestrian access along the north side of Dundas Street, near the Palermo Park site, were reasons to investigate interim locations. Town staff said that given the high concentration of youths in the area and with skateboarding facilities and programs being one of the most frequently requested services, the Glen Abbey Community Centre's proximity to the West Oak Trails Park makes it an ideal See Skatepark page 7 Oakville's Planning and Development Council has signed off on an action plan that will guide the development of downtown Oakville over the next 20 years. The Downtown Oakville Strategic Action Plan, approved by council Monday night, seeks to outline opportunities to develop and further enhance Oakville's downtown as a sustainable, well-designed and accessible area while protecting its unique historic character.
