The new fundraising event will be held at ZU Bar, located at 4170 South Service Rd. in Burlington. Hope and the City is set to be the quintessential girls night out of summer 2010. Women of all ages are invited to enjoy this glamorous night out with their girlfriends all in support of women's cancer research (breast, ovarian, cervical and uterine) funded by the Canadian Cancer Society. The society is currently looking for 15 remarkable female cancer survivors to participate in Hope and the City as the celebrity models during the VIP Hour fashion show. Tall ship cruises are taking place this Friday and Saturday on the Empire Sandy. Tickets are still available for the lunch and dinner buffet cruises of Lake Ontario. Tickets can be purchased through the Bronte BIA at 2368 Lakeshore Rd. W., lower level 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by calling 905-825-3258. A world champion sandcastle builder, Karen Fralich of Burlington, has just completed one of her signature sand sculptures that she has worked on for several days. The sand sculptures can be seen at 2395 Lakeshore Rd. Fralich is a three-time world champion and a threetime North American champion and has participated in contests for more than the last decade. The exhibit is free. Bronte's Harbour Day Contest is also taking place. Participating Bronte retailers will offer customers a chance to win thousands of dollars worth in prizes. There are 40 businesses participating and customers have a chance to win gift certificates to places such as spa and beauty treatments, restaurants, apparel and home décor. A sidewalk sale is also taking place this weekend, running from Friday to Sunday. Furthermore, there will be music in the streets during the Taking it to the Streets music program.
