Police said the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. when a man pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the store employee. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left the store and drove off in a waiting van. The employee of the store was not injured during the robbery. The suspect is described as male, white, in his 20s, 5-foot-9 in height, with a skinny build and a scruffy beard. He wore a green zip up hoodie with stripes and a neck warmer. The vehicle was described as a green Chevrolet Venture van. The handgun was described as a revolver with a bronze handle. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident and anyone with informa- tion related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Subway robbed The Oakvillegreen Conservation Association and the Town of Oakville are participating in the International Day of Climate Action. Just like last year, they are inviting residents to once again come out this year to a Community Tree Planting event to mark the day. The tree planting will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at Palermo Park. The event will be led by the Oakvillegreen Ground Breakers volunteers. The initiative has planted more than 10,000 native trees and shrubs across Oakville since 2004. A celebratory tree dedication will take place at 10 a.m. in honour of Oakvillegreen's 10th Anniversary with special guests, Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn and Councillor Allan Elgar. Saving green space, planting trees and establishing the Natural Heritage System are just some of the things that Oakvillegreen has accomplished since 2001 with the help of our members, on behalf of the community. We are very happy to have this contribution recognized and we look for- ward to all that we can achieve together in the years ahead, said Liz Benneian, Oakvillegreen president, in a press release. Planting supplies, such as shovels, gloves, trees and shrubs, will be on site. People can also bring their own shov- els and are encouraged to dress appropriately. High school students can also earn volunteer hours by participating. For more information, contact Jennifer at programs@oakvillegreen.org. Plant a tree on day of climate action
