She was an older sister herself and now her sons friends are frequent visitors at her home. She has used some of her knowledge along with some inspiration, both spiritual and from her family, to pen and publish a childrens book to help prepare young children for the arrival of a younger sibling. The book, titled Babies Are a Gift That ..., was published in June. The book itself is illus- trated by Oakvilles Brentton Barkman, a gradu- ate of Sheridan Colleges arts program. Its a book aimed at children who are get- ting a sibling, she said. The idea came from an inspiration from my little cousin who was wait- ing for his little brother to be born. However, her cousin was not Costas only source for creativity. A year prior to (writing the book) I met a young baby, Costa said. She passed away but in meeting her, she channelled the book to me. Ive actually written 12 stories in total. The other 12 stories, also channelled, are not published, though Costa said she plans to pur- sue printing some of the other stories. Costas goal was to help young children pre- pare for the arrival of a young sibling. She wrote the story some two years before publishing it, while she looked for an illustrator. Barkman is a graduate of Iroquois Ridge High School, where Costas son Joseph goes to school now and he was recommended to Costa by a school guidance counsellor. Barkman has already had previous work published in Marcus Golfing Adventures. Costas book sells for $18.99 and is available at local major outlets such as Chapters and Indigo. Inspired by baby FOR KIDS: Maria Costa poses for a photo with her book 'Babies Are a Gift That.' which is about preparing children for the arrival of a new sibling.
