About 400 Ancaster News, Dundas Star News, Hamilton Mountain News, Stoney Creek News, Flamborough Review, Burlington Post, Milton Cana- dian Champion and Oakville Beaver carriers and their families participated in the day, which included a trip through the farms Haunted Barn and Pioneer Village, a Haunted Hayride, Carrier Idol, free food, games and prizes. Non-perishable food items were also collected for area food banks. Metroland started Carrier Appreciation Day 14 years ago to show its appreciation for carriers hard work throughout the year. There are close to 5,500 child and adult carriers across the Metroland West Media Group. Its an opportunity for us to say thank you to the kids and let them know how much they, and their families, are appreciated, said Metroland regional promotions coordinator Erin Faught. The real key for this day is to let the kids come, have fun and just be kids. Green Mountain Farm owner Colleen Tessaro says its an honour to host such an event. Its all about the kids, she said, adding its the first time the farm has hosted Carrier Appreciation Day. We offer educational tours and work a lot with area schools, so I think its awesome to be able to do this for Metroland West Media Group carriers and their families.
