The Halton Regional Police Service signed a Rotational Towing Agreement last week with several local towing companies. The participating companies were required to complete applications and were subject to a screening process prior to being approved. According to the agreement the selected towing companies are restrict- ed in terms of the maximum rates they can charge for their services. If a citizen is involved in a collision and their vehicle needs to be towed and police do not need to secure the vehicle for further investigation, the citizen will have the choice of selecting their own towing company or request the attending officer arrange for an approved rotational towing company. Rotational towing companies shall produce upon request the rate list of tow charges. If you choose a towing company not on the rotational list, Halton police cannot govern the charges. Police say be prepared in the event of a collision or a mechanical break- down by doing the following: Know your insurance companys roadside assistance policies. If you subscribe to a roadside assistance program, have the number in the glove box. Dont be intimidated by aggressive solicitation by tow truck drivers at the roadside.
