Society of Canada, with pop tabs they have collected at the Optimist Convention held Aug.28 in Oakville.Reid,a long-time Oakville resident, began collecting the tabs for a neighbouring boy who was running a school contest for accumulating the most tabs to purchase wheelchairs.Reid continued to collect these tabs while out on his daily walks. Many people would ask him about it and now he has a regular collection network in Oakville, Burlington, Myrtle Beach and Cape Breton. Reid is a member of the Oakville Optimist Club and knew the Garden City Optimist Club in St. Catharines was collecting can tabs for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.President Jackie Mason of the Garden City Optimists, started collecting can tabs for the MS Societys Young Carers Program for the youth Kidz Club. It provides educational information about MS, peer support, practical skills training, recreational and social opportunities and most of all a chance just to be a kid. Mason is a caregiver to her husband who has had MS since 1989. The St. Catharines and Oakville Optimist Clubs have teamed up to support the MS Kidz Club. The rate of aluminum is $0.45 per pound.
