Triple P Seminar for Parents of Teens (13-16 years) 19 Friday , O ctober 8, 2010 O A KVILLE BEA V ER w w w .o akvillebeaver .co m Open house at Lions Foundation Dog Guides facility on Oct. 16 On Saturday, Oct. 16 Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is hosting its fall Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature a new Ask an Expert question-and-answer period with Program Director Ian Ashworth, in addition to demon- strations from the five Dog Guide programs, tours of the facility and silent auction. The family event will provide an opportunity for members of the public to learn about the process involved in raising and training Dog Guides. Foster families will be onsite to discuss their experiences with their foster puppies and trainers will be presenting on-going demonstra- tions with trained Dog Guides. In addition to the tours and demonstrations, a silent auction will take place throughout the day. It will help raise funds to cover the cost of raising and training Dog Guides, which is approximately $20,000 per dog. Each eligible candidate is pro- vided a Dog Guide including all required training, travel and accom- modation at no cost. Lions Foundation of Canada trains five types of Dog Guides - Canine Vision Dog Guides, provid- ing assistance to people who are blind or visually impaired; Hearing Ear Dog Guides, for people who are deaf or hard of hearing; Special Skills Dog Guides, providing assis- tance to Canadians with physical disabilities; Seizure Response Dog Guides, helping Canadians with epilepsy; and Autism Assistance Dog Guides, helping children and their families living with autism.
