Please LIVE UNITED this year and donate to United Way of Oakville, said Barbara Burton, UWO CEO. We need your support to ensure our agencies have the resources they need to help the people in Oakville who need it isolated seniors, children who go to school hungry, and individuals struggling with lifes challenges. Last year United Way of Oakvilles agencies supported 30,000 people right here in Oakville. Donations can go a long way to helping people in need in Oakville. Consider this: $25 will provide five children in need with a nutritious breakfast, lunch or snack at their school. $100 will provide two seniors suffering from dementia and other illnesses with therapeutic pro- grams. $300 donation will provide 26 people suffering from depression, attempted suicide, loneliness and other issues with support through a telephone crisis line. $750 donation will provide a senior with home delivery of hot lunches and/or frozen meals planned by a dietician for a year. Donations can be made to the United Way office at 466 Speers Road, Oakville L6K 3W9, or by phone 905-845-5571 or online at www.uwoakville.org/donate United Way of Oakville will announce the amount of money raised during their 2010 Final Achievement Event on December 8th 2010. The event will take place on Wednesday, December 8th from 8am to 9am at Sheridan College. The breakfast event is more than a celebration, it also includes an awards ceremony to honor the suc- cess of various individuals, organi- zations and supporters. In addition, the 2011 Campaign Cabinet Chair, the person who will lead United Ways campaign next year, will be announced. The event is open to everyone. Two weeks left in United Way of Oakvilles campaign (NC)While many people will no doubt want to help others this holiday season, it can be challeng- ing to actually decide what to con- tribute and to which cause. Here are some suggestions that might make selecting a cause to support this holiday season easier: Food banks are great options as they offer different ways to get involved from monetary support and collecting essential food items to volunteering time to handout - or deliver goods. The whole family can help at a food bank. It's a great way to teach compassion to chil- dren and get them involved in their community. If you are a book lover, used books would make an excellent donation to a local library, school or retirement residence. Love animals? Consider dropping off treats or blankets at your local animal shelter or humane socie- ty. Hospitals in your area will also welcome your own offer of volun- teer time or donations to the var- ious programs they operate, both within their facilities and in vari- ous communities. A phone call or online research can quickly provide a lot of information on what is needed and how you can help out. There are many ways to make a difference during this holiday season and the generous act of giving, as many can attest, is often the most rewarding experi- ence of all at this time of year.
