Spudowski, the execu- tive chef at downtown Oakvilles Jonathans Restaurant, was part of the Chefs Challenge for a Cure event in Toronto on Saturday, Nov. 20. The par- ticipants in the event were the top 50 Canadian food- loving fundraisers, who together raised nearly $1.1 million for breast and ovari- an cancer research at Mount Sinai Hospital. The participants were partnered in groups of 10 and each group worked with a celebrity chef trying to create the best dish. The judge of the dishes was none other than Ramsay. Though the idea of hav- ing Ramsay judging your cooking can be daunting, Spudowski said one need not have worried. It was just amazing to see him on at all points, he said. He was a very nice guy obviously hes doing it for a great cause so every- body I talked to that had an interaction with him was impressed with his demeanor. In fact, during the day- long event when the two chefs got together they had other things to discuss than just food. It was great, he said. I had many conversations with Gordon and hes got a few daughters and I just had one eight months ago. To participate, a person had to be what Spudowski called a foodie, but that did not mean they had to be pro- fessionals. He said on his 10-person team there were people from a range of pro- fessions such as housewives and lawyers. Each team received support from a celebrity chef. In the case of Spudowskis team, it was the interna- tionally renowned David Rocco. He is a very nice gentleman, Spudowski said of Rocco. He was pulled in many different directions because he is very well known interna- tionally. Hes very knowledgeable in his realm of food. The 10-member team was further divided into three-course teams of a fish, beef and desert team. Spudowski was part of the main course beef team.
