One of the biggest problems today is that everybody thinks of Pixar or Dream Works. They forget the basics of animations which is steep in simplicity, he said. He told them to attend life-drawing class- es and to learn to draw scenes. Imagine your life drawings in a scene. Draw a sce- nario, he added. He was proud of his Canadian heritage, saying no other country produces so many animators that are working all over the world. Canadian animators are gypsies. Were all over the place, he said adding that the four animators on the Jurassic Park film were all Canadian. Adding further advice, he said animators need to do more than just draw. He said growing up he did impressions of his family members and continues to do impressions of others today. What was I doing? I was observing what my family was doing. I was watching stuff. I was doing impersonations. Thats what ani- mation is, its all about observation, he said. And animators have to be actors as well. Animators have to be good actors. You have to be good at miming. You have to be good at mimicking, moving. You got to move, feel the jive, baby. Williams is currently the co-owner of Hoytyboy Pictures, which produces com- mercials for companies such as Blockbuster, Capital One, Toyota and others.
