Gabrielle will be missed beyond words, every single moment of every single day. She was a very special and gift- ed child who brought sunshine to every person she met. We will always see her smiling in every rainbow, read Gabrielles obituary notice. The heartache that is beyond comprehension underlines just how special every day and the holiday season and its magic are for children. The sunshine of Gabrielles rainbow is at Cupids Oakvilles first and only gourmet cupcakery where other children are simply delighting in being a child at one of the most special kid-seasons of them all. Their little faces peering over the counter and the excitement in their eyes when they visit, made me realize I had created a childhood moment I know they will remem- ber forever, said Cupids owner Niki Brinton in a release about the gingerbread effort. At Cupids Gourmet Cupcakes all our cupcakes are baked fresh every day and we are nut-free, said Brinton, a former Oakville high school teacher who opened her first bakery in February of this year and soon realized that some of her best customers are less than 3 feet tall. So Brinton decided to design the special Christmas event in support of the SickKids Foundation. She chal- lenged her baking team to create the magical Christmas Gingerbread Village. More than 240 combined hours were spent designing, baking and decorating the creations using a special gingerbread recipe. The gingerbread was decorated with flooding and string work using royal icing; creating animals and figures out of fondant; melting crushed candy to create stained glass; and the detailed placement of licorice, chocolates, cinnamon sticks and marshmallows. People are invited to view all six creations: Sugar & Spice Farm, Candycane Cakeshop, St. Nicholas Cathedral, Jacks Toy Shop, Barbies Dream House and Cupids Corner. Customers and visitors can bid on their favourite. Silent auction bidders must register at the bakery. Bidding closes Dec. 23 and all proceeds will go to SickKids Foundation. Cupids Gourmet Cupcakes is located in Upper Oakville Shopping Centre, 1011 Upper Middle Rd. E. It has also just opened a second shop in Burlington at 3450 Dundas St. (at Walker's Line). The Oakville shop is closed Mondays. The Burlington shop is open Monday through Saturday. For infor- mation, call 905-339-2253 or visit www.cupidscupcakes.ca.
