Jessica Shepley battled back, firing a round of 66 Saturday at LPGA qualifying school, to again earn conditional status on the top women's golf tour in the world. After two rounds in Daytona Beach, Fla., the Iroquois Ridge grad was 91st in the field of 118 vying for one of the 20 tour cards available for next season and in danger of missing the cut. She responded with an even-par 72 on Friday to move up to 69th and then shot up the leaderboard with a six-under 66 on Saturday, jumping to 33rd. Shepley closed the tournament with a 74 in Sunday's fifth round, moving up three spots to 30th. That proved to be an important move as it improved her status to Category 16, which earns her entry into Monday qualifying rounds for LPGA events with full fields. Oakville went 1-1-1 in round-robin play, then edged the host Peterborough squad 2-1 in the semifinals before falling to Bluewater in the championship game. Goal scorers for Oakville during the tournament included Victoria Medeiros (two), Andrea Benac (two), Emma Wingrave and Danielle Maton. Megan Walker and Annie Nasato contributed two assists each, with Nathalie Mihalek and Ashlynn Brown also notching helpers. Katia Bisson and Colleen OKelly split time in goal. OKelly earned a shutout in a 1-0 win over Clarington during round- robin play. Other members of the team are Madison Faion, Cassidy Feeney, Katherine Karthaus, Allison Kula, Kristina Sitas, Dominique Hanson and Alexandra Thorn. Oakville defeated teams from York, Hamilton and Chatham to reach the final, where it downed a Barrie squad 47-41.
