The topics of discussion at the meeting, which will be held at 10 a.m., in the board room of the United Way of Oakville, 466 Speers Rd., will include municipal election initiatives, ward size and council size. What we have recognized are these long standing inequities in the ward structure and the need for some sort of redistribution so we can have something that looks fair from a democratic point of view, said Brian Hopkins, vice chair of Fair Vote Halton. Ward 4 has around double the people of Ward 1 and 2 combined. Hopkins said the ideal situation would see each councillor representing a similar number of constituents. Were no where close to that in Oakville and we havent been for some time, he said. For the Fair Vote meeting former Burlington Councillor Mark Carr will be present to add to the discussion. In addition to his time on council, Carr has been a campaign manager for his broth- er, Halton Region Chair Gary Carr and has volunteered with TV Cogeco for 14 years hosting the program Round Table and On the Record. Hopkins is hoping some manner of pub- lic process will be established to determine the best ward redistribution. He hopes Fair Vote Halton will be involved in that process along with other members of the communi- ty. Fair Vote Halton Jan. 22 meeting will discuss redrawing Oakvilles ward map Speak up!
