Recent results, however, suggest oth- erwise. The Oakville Blades made a major statement Thursday in Kingston, defeat- ing the defending league champions 2-1 to earn their second win over Kingston in the last two months and third in four meetings between the clubs this season. Thomas Evans and Ryan Murphy scored for Oakville, which carried a 2-0 lead into the third period. Daniel Savelli made 27 saves to earn the win and Mark McGowan had two assists for the Blades. Any realistic hopes Oakville had of finishing first in the league standings, however, died Friday as the Mississauga Chargers surprised the Blades 7-2 at Joshuas Creek Arenas. Oakville, which rebounded to defeat the Couchiching Terriers 4-0 Sunday in Couchiching, sits seven points behind Kingston with five games remaining in the regular season. Steven Guzzo and Nick Rivait tallied for Oakville in Fridays loss to the Chargers. The Blades outshot Mississauga 48-27 on the night. Mike Morissette took the loss in goal. Sunday, Savelli stopped all 19 shots he faced and Oakville got goals from Mark Bennett, Steven Hickey, Dustin Alcock and Murphy. The Blades will conclude their home schedule this weekend with three games in as many nights at Joshuas Creek Arenas. The Georgetown Raiders visit Oakville Friday, the Huntsville Otters are in town Saturday and the Collingwood Blues travel to Oakville Sunday. All three games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. starts. The Blades will finish the regular season the following weekend with road games at Villanova and Mississauga.
