Winning gold at the Hershey North American championships a meet that draws competitors from across the U.S. and most Canadian provinces is no small feat. Neptune said hes never had an athlete win a medal at the Hershey finals during the time he's been coaching at Oakville Legion. I thought I would be in the top three. I didnt know I would win, said Ayorinde, a MacLachlan College student who set a provin- cial record earlier this year with a 13.56 time at Hershey qualifiers. I was really nervous, so I got a lot of adrenaline. Ayorinde got into running after his first year at MacLachlan, where he found a lot of students enjoyed running. It didnt take him long to figure out he had a natural knack for it. I think its my long legs that are an advantage, he said. Neptune, however, attributes it to more than just Ayorindes 5-foot frame. This kid is something else. Hes quiet but hes dangerous and he listens, said Neptune. For his age group, Im kind of surprised. What Ive learned about younger kids is teach them right at this time.
