Oakville Liberal MPP Kevin Flynn and Halton Liberal candidate Indira Naidoo- Harris announced this proposed GO train service expansion, Monday, during a presen- tation at the Oakville GO Station. Quite often you hear people giving these reasons as to why they dont use the GO train and often it has to do with scheduling. It didnt run often enough, said Flynn. So as part of our platform we are announc- ing that if we form the government on Oct. 6, beginning in 2012 well be taking full-day service to 30 minute trains, right throughout the whole day, which is quite significant. In addition to this Naidoo-Harris said all day, seven day a week service will be brought to the GO corridors of Milton, Georgetown, Barrie, Richmond Hill and Stouffville. Currently these corridors only offer rail service on weekdays, and only during peak periods. Ive been a commuter for almost 20 years and I can tell you this is going to be an amaz- ing initiative for Halton families, said Naidoo-Harris. This is about choice, its about service and this is also going to be good for the economy and families. This is going to get people where they need to be, get them to their families faster and earlier so they can spend time with them and get them to work on a more efficient basis. The increased Oakville and Milton GO train service is part of a $6.8 billion long- term capital plan by the Liberals that will see the laying down of new tracks, the expansion of GO train stations and the increased capac- ity of GO train parking lots. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said overall the plan is expected to create 68,000 Ontario construction and engineering jobs. Flynn said the change will have a drastic impact on Oakville residents traveling to and from Oakville.
