Ontario saw 40,000 jobs created this past June - more than the rest of Canada combined. Ontario is the largest automotive manufac- turing jurisdiction in North America and were on track to become North America's leader in clean energy, with 20,000 jobs already and a total of 50,000 on the way by the end of 2012. Our tax reforms have made our businesses more competitive, so they invest more and cre- ate more jobs. The tax rate on new business investment will be cut in half and the small A PC govern- ment will focus on three pillars of eco- nomic growth. First, well pro- vide immediate relief for the family budget. By remov- ing the HST from home heating bills, reducing income taxes and offering income tax splitting, Oakville families will have more money to spend on essentials and discretionary items all contributing to our local economy. Second, as previously reported in this paper, we will introduce a Small Business Bill of Rights. Small businesses are the backbone of the Oakville economy. First we have to create more jobs. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath was in Oakville last week to unveil our plan to help small businesses and other employers invest in our communities and create jobs here in Ontario. The NDP Job Creation Tax Credit will use the wealth that has been thrown away in corporate tax loopholes to create 80,000 new jobs over four years. Oakville has deep roots in manufactur- ing, and we need to return to those roots to create and keep higher-paying jobs here in our community. Good jobs stabilize a com- munity and sustain the businesses and services within. An Ontario NDP govern- ment will reward job creators in Ontario. This is change that gets people working to grow our economy. Oakville could be a leader in green energy sectors that are opening up in the markets. An NDP government would invest in green energy. Jobs are waiting to be cre- ated. What is your plan for strengthening Oakville's economy? Throughout the provincial election campaign the eOakvill Beaver will be asking candidates in the Oakville and Halton ridings to respond to weekly questions. Responses from the Oakville candidates will appear each Thursday and responses from the Halton candidates will appear each Friday leading up to the Oct. 6 election. The second question in this series is "What is your plan for strengthening Oakville's economy?" Kevin Flynn Liberals Larry Scott PC Lesley Sprague NDP Kevin Flynn Larry Scott Lesley Sprague Oakvilles econo- my does not exist in a vacuum, but is rather a part of a larger economy: that of the GTA and Ontario. Following are the steps that GPO will take to improve the strength of Ontarios economy. -First of all, we will not only support the devel f opment of renewable energy along the lines o the Green Energy Act, but also go well beyond it. e In the coming world of expensive and scarc d energy, Ontario needs its own well develope y renewable sources that will secure relativel s cheap energy, controlled by Ontario, for it manufacturing. e Development and servicing of renewabl d energy will bring thousands of well-distribute jobs throughout Ontario. t Secondly, the Green government will assis d the development of local organic agriculture an -organic food processing. This will not only pro -vide food security for Ontario, but will also cre ate an export-oriented sector for the economy.
