When Jade Zeron skated on to the ice at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo two years ago, she couldnt help but be a little overwhelmed. Just 16 at the time, she was auditioning for Disney on Ice. While she didnt necessar- ily expect to make the touring skating show, the tryout taught her a valuable lesson. When I went in and I saw the arena and the stands and how massive it was, it just showed me that when I compete, how expres- sive I have to be, she said. It totally changed the way I skate. When the longtime Skate Oakville mem- ber returned for auditions this fall, she felt better prepared. And the lessons of two years earlier paid off when she landed one of the coveted spots for the Disney on Ice produc- tion of Toy Story 3, which will tour the west coast. Zeron will play a number of roles in the show. She is looking forward to the tour, which begins in November in Vancouver and continues until May. Ive been skating so long, Ive seen the (Disney) shows, the 18-year-old said. I love kids and this is something that lets me show off my talents. I get to travel and entertain people. Zeron will also have some help as she heads out on the road. She will join Miltons Carly Albrecht, who has already been on tour with Disney. Ive been talking to her all day, Zeron said. She said its a whole new world out there on your own. The Markham Waxers scored the final three goals of the game to hand the Blades a 5-2 defeat Monday in Markham, dropping Oakville to 3-2 on the Ontario Junior Hockey League campaign. It was the first meeting between the two clubs since Jooris, who led Oakville to the OJHL finals last season, left the Blades this summer to coach Markham. Stefan Thompson and Bradley Ryan scored first-peri- od goals in the loss for the Blades, who had trailed 2-0 less than three minutes into the game. Markham struck for four powerplay goals in the contest, three of them com- ing off the stick of Rickey Buehler. Oakvilles loss came on the heels of a pair of wins on home ice last weekend. The Blades easily downed the Burlington Cougars 6-0 Friday, then slipped by the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 5-4 in overtime Saturday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. f Liam Board sparked the Blades Friday with a pair o goals, while Ashton Anderson, Phil Hampton, Braedan Russell and Tyler Karius also tallied. Brad Kobyrn and Kyle Blaney each recorded two assists, while James Prigione made 28 saves to earn the shutout. Saturday, the Blades staged an improbable rally to col- lect two points against the Jr. Sabres. Karius and Martin Kudla scored in the final 2:05 of regulation to force over- time Kudlas equalizer coming on a penalty shot before Hampton scored 3:19 into the extra session. Todd Bannerman and Kobryn had Oakvilles other markers, both coming in the first period. Michael Stiliadis stopped 24 of 28 Buffalo shots to collect the victory in net. Oakville will return to action Friday when it hosts the Milton IceHawks.
