GRAHAM PAINE / OAKVILLE BEAVER Off Broadway for children The YMCA of Oakville and the local ArtHouse program have teamed up for a program that will engage children in music, theatre arts and fitness enrichment. The five-week Off Broadway program will be held at the Y Saturday afternoons, begin- ning Oct. 22. The cost-free program is for children aged seven to 11 and is available for up to 30 participants. The program will encour- age children to lead creative and healthy lives, develop strong communication and team building skills, make new friends and lasting rela- tionships, and to experience a culturally rich community setting. ArtHouse now provides seven totally cost-free pro- grams in seven locations in Oakville, serving more than 200 children. ArtHouse launched four cooking pro- grams recently and more are expected to come. ArtHouse raises funds through concerts so that all children could participate in arts-based programs. The local organization is one of 18 galleries in the province to win the award this year, at the 34th annual OAAG Award Ceremony Sept. 30 in Toronto. The award ceremony also rec- ognized other groups, including the 18 galleries in 11 Ontario communities. OAAG is a charitable organi- zation that serves and represents Ontarios public art galleries as valued and essential centres of art and learning.
