The OCF has organized a town-wide Random Act of Kindness (RAK) Day and hopes all residents will do something good for others. RAK cards signify that a random act of kindness has been performed. The cards can be picked up by people and then handed to the recipient of the Rusty Baillie kindness, with the hope that recipient will do the same for someone else. "Hopefully these cards will keep on going," said Rusty Baillie, OCF CEO. "The cards have gone to service clubs or schools or businesses that have said, `We're going to do it.' So they need the cards." The OCF hopes even more cards go out to the community before Friday. They have been picked up by banks, recreation centres, service clubs, malls, schools, restaurants, the YMCA, the Downtown BIA, businesses and more. Connor Land, 17, was many things to many people, which may be why so many are feeling his loss so acutely. The Grade 12 St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School student was killed Thursday night, when a train struck him as he crossed the tracks about 400 metres east of Fourth Line. Land's family has strongly emphasized Land's death was a tragic accident and nothing more. The Halton Regional Police Service investigation, through the major accident reconstruction division, is still underway. Land's mom said dealing with the loss of someone who had such a bright future has been beyond difficult. "It's not real to me," said Patricia Land, Connor's mother.
