The Canadian Caregiver Coalition estimates caregivers provide more than 80 per cent of support needed by individuals with long-term conditions and contribute to more than $5 billion in unpaid labour every year, Brereton said. Last year, Mississauga Halton CCAC achieved the highest rate of alternative level of care in Ontario at 5.4 per cent, according to a press release, which frees up hospital beds for those who need them most. "There's amazing care that takes place every day in the homes in Oakville, Milton and Mississauga -- about 15,000 heroes everyday are providing care at home and I think that's amazing. That's why we're recognizing our heroes in the home program," added Brereton.
